Yawazzi TP started as a series of conversations between two UCT honours students, two students whose skills and ideas complemented each other. Time passed and the conversations grew into consultations then grew into collaborations – first on projects then on full productions. The two students are now grown-up professional theatre geeks, their love of technology taking their skills into unique directions. Yawazzi TP is an expert in the creation and integration of multimedia and theatre. Over the last year it has already produced the multimedia components Attempts on Her Life (UCT), La Scala Di Seta (Wagner Society), ingcwaba lendoda lise cankwe ndlela (Magnet Theatre), Sister Breyani (Baxter), Heart of Sand (La Rosa Spanish Dance Theatre Company), Bafana Republic 3 (MVG Productions) and I am my Own Wife (Baxter).
Yawazzi has created original works which have been received with great acclaim, its productions, The Life and Work of Petrovic Petar (2007) and Under the Stars, Above the Tree (2008) have been performed at various festivals around South Africa. In May 2009 they produced Hamlet at UCT – a radical fracturing of the text that cemented their reputation for unconventional concepts. Yawazzi has also developed three cabarets with musician Godfrey Johnson: Uncut, Flirting with Coward, and Behind Every Man. They most recently staged a performance piece celebrating the work of Howard Barker for the 21 for 21 world festival.
